My choice winter scene
I did this in Watercolour, we had the option to choose our own image, I drew the outlines in Pencil and went over them in ink, Colours are still an issue for me,
But I enjoying all aspects of the course, and feel as though I am learning all the time.

A great attempt here, it is so good to see you build up your skills and colours, the more you try the more you will grow. Do more of your own work.

Winter in Gouache
There wasn’t any drawing done on this exercise, the main drawing was Gouache, but I added a small amount of watercolour for the snow effect.
I feel as though it looks a bit flat, it needs more work. On the whole I quite enjoyed it.

This was a good task to become more experimental and free in your approach to paintng. A great outcome here.

Country Church
This exercise was a pleasure to do, I drew outlines in Pencil, then went over them in Ink.
I mixed my Water colour paints trying my own mixtures, I didn’t get the effect I wanted when I used clingfilm,
Possibly I let the paint dried too quickly.
I would be happy to try this technique again.

I could tell you enjoyed this task, I think you are becoming more obsersvant and less scared of the challenge. You have grown both in confidence and skills, keep this up.

Corfe Castle
I Enjoyed this challenge very much, I managed the Gouache paint with a more success this time, we did an outline first in Pen and ink. I enjoy this process it gives me more confidence to get the image in proportion.
so I was happy with the end result.

I am glad this challenge was more enjoyable for you. I do like Rob Adams artwork. You can use this method to apply to some of your own photos, try it. Gwaith da

Ludlow
This image was a Photo of Rob's visit to Ludlow, it was quite a challenge I found very daunting,
it was on black paper, with Gouache paints, we have had little experience in this medium, and I didn't get the consistency right.
with more practice I might get a better result.
Tutor comment
Yes I agree this was a difficult intro to Gouahe and the iamge was complex, but unless we push ourseles we will not grow, and you have grown so much in your art work, so well done.

picket fence
This challenge wasn’t an easy one, I enjoyed the pencil sketching and ink part.
There were lots of detail to consider, but bit by bit it came together. I’m getting the ideas of layers and layers. The instructions were easy to follow. My colours could have been better, I’m working on that. The last thing we’re the splatters, as this was a first for me, that’s another work in progress. I was happy with the result.

lion
My first thought on seeing this challenge was utter panic, I made a few attempts with a light pencil drawing of the head to try to capture the expression on the face.
I didn’t find this an easy task by any means.
I started with the smaller details first, I made an outline of the head, I continued with the eyes, nose and mouth, then using watercolour, yellows and browns on the face mane and body .
The background came next, using blues, pale green and purple.
I couldn’t see it working at all to start with, i considered starting again, but continued with the finer details of the face, then building up with layers.
The more I continued, the better it looked. The mane was tricky, the lighter tones of yellows went on first, the darker shades of brown and black with finer strokes came next. The body was layered with light creamy tones to give it a misty look.
In the end I was happy with the outcome enough to try it again, making the head a little smaller and narrower keeping it in proportion.

still life
This was an enjoyable task, using different mediums, ie- Pencil, Pen and ink and watercolour wash. I managed a reasonable perspective on the sizes with this one, using pencil outline to get the basic shapes, I then went over them with ink fine liner.
The washes came next mixing lemons and a little orange. Blue’s and purples , light and dark greens. To Finnish i added more hatch markings suggested by Rob. It certainly made a difference.
I was pleased with the overall result.

Roman coliseum
This Challenge was more to my liking, starting with a sketch, this makes I so it much easier for me to get my prospective fairly accurate and to scale, this was my second attempt at this task.
I enjoyed the whole process although I didn’t manage much painting in class, first I added a light colour wash over the sketch of the building, for this I used burnt sienna. I did get the base colour quite close to my liking , getting the mixing of the colours with tones that suit my taste ( not always easy for me)
Next came the sky, I added layers of similar colours getting darker with each layer, I added darker shade of similar colours on the building to create shadows. Then moved on to the grass and finished off by adding a few birds to the sky. I was quite happy with the end result. It gave me hours of pleasure.

fire in the forest
This watercolour was a very enjoyable task, a very vibrant image. I managed to complete this with very little sketching ( not an easy task for me)
I tend to need guide lines to follow.
I started with a pale yellow wash in the center of the page, I removed enough of the yellow, with a tissue to leave a white area.
This was to be the background for the sun to emerge through the trees. I added orange on top of the yellow. Next came brush strokes in darker colours for the trees, making up the rest of the forest. I used layers of white Gouache for the snow effect. It took me some time to get the consistency right.
I was pleased with the outcome and I was happy with the end product.

Lots of steps here and lots of detail with trees and branches. It is an exciting image and the original artist has lots of insoiring videos. Well done a great result here.

Stones of Pentre Ifan
On first impression of Stonehenge I thought was quite dramatic. The pen work looked impressive, little did I know how hard it was going
to be to get it right. My first try was a disaster, I wasn’t happy with my background colour, I thought it was too bold the whole thing was in your face.
My downfall was the gouache paint, unfortunately I diluted it too much, this was the point I started again. I used a paler background and made my image a smaller version.
The pen work was still very detailed and needed a lot of patience, but I persevered with the white gouache paint with a thicker consistency, I took my time
applying it, I need to practice more often. enjoy working with Pen and ink, the finished article was just ok.

This was not an easy task but your patience paid off. A lot of pen and ink work but you have produced a great fnished image. The more your sketch and draw the better your paintings will become. Gwaith da:)

English Barn
I started this exercise with a grid, I find this method allows me to get the subject in proportion. I sketched the scene in pencil, then in fine liner.
I started with the Barn, then next came the tree branches and the fence. The picture started to take shape by adding colour to the sky.
The Barn came next with watercolour, then shadows on the roof. Finally came the foreground in different shades of green and yellow.
I thourally enjoyed this exercise and quite happy with the outcome.

A great start to a new term, new adventure. Youe drawing is getting better and the more you look the better the results. I love your version of this scene, a lighter touch to the watercolour. Don't be afrraid of applying more contrasting colour to make the image zing, well done.
