Gail's Gallery September 2022
Signing off - Merry Christmas All.
This piece was not given as a task, as we were told to use free reign and do something "Christmasy" to signify the end of term. I chose this, which again is watercolours, because I wanted to have a go at a new technique (for me) called Bokeh. This is where I put on different colour washes and let them bleed together and dry, before lifting circles of paint in a random manner to indicate lights in a blurry background. I think it works, although stronger colour could be added and also more lights. I will persist! I like it - a lot.

I love this personal chosen artwork, looks fantastic. I love the colours and the composition of it. Really good, perhaps you could use this as a card for noext year!! Well done
Winter Gouache scene
This task was meant to be a haphazard approach (in my terms - just slapping paint on the paper! 😅). It really did feel haphazard too, and as the painting developed in front of my eyes, being out of my comfort zone felt justified. Again, completed at home, I really like the end result. Gouache might not be so bad after all!

A grat wnter scene in Gouache, yes I think more time spent using this medium will pay off in the long term, keep at it. Gwaith da

Country Church
This piece has been done in graphite first, followed by some ink. I layered some soft watercolour on top whilst I was in class, and ALMOST finished it. All I felt that I needed to do was to add some stronger washes once the piece was dry, so I completed it at home. I really like the softness and whimsical feel that this piece has, and enjoyed doing it.

A loely com pleyted painting Gail. The softness of the watercolour gives is some atmosphere. Well done
Still life
Despite my lack of interest in having a go at still life, I really enjoyed doing this one. Firstly I did a light sketch of the piece with a fine tipped mechanical pencil. Altered some of my perspectives because they were a bit skewed, but I was happy with the drawing. Mixing some warm yellows, I put a wet onto dry wash onto the background, then whilst the paper was still damp, I added some different tones of purple and blue then let it dry. Using the same colours, but either stronger or lighter tones, I started filling in the produce on the table. I really loved doing the onion and garlic! I finished off with pen work, but I preferred the less is more approach. Overall I am very pleased with how it turned out.

Another very good piece, delicate washes of colour with gentle pen and ink mark-making. Well done

Pentre Ifan stones
This task gave me a lot to think about before I embarked on it. There's an incredible amount of detail in this piece and I wondered how long it would take. I started by putting a watercolour wash on an A3 sheet of paper and letting it dry. Then I carefully sketched a light impression of the stones in pencil. I think my proportions are slightly off but I don't really mind - it makes it mine! I started the pen work at home because I couldn't quite finish it in class. I found the detail a bit too much, if I'm honest and a bit laborious too, consequently it took me two weeks to complete it. I haven't managed to get the sunlight/moonlight to show up very well, after trying white gel pen, white acrylic paint pen, white gouache paint and also white pastel pencil to no avail. Still, I'm happy enough with it.

This an excellent piece of work Gail, so much detail as you said but the kind of challenge you love. The pen work is so accurate to the original. very impressed. keep up the good work.

This is a great painting/drawing, the detail is something you engage with very much. An excellent result here, despite it taking a long time to finish, it turned out excellent.
