"McDougall" - The Highland Coo
I worried a bit about this one. Pastels on pastelmat once again, the initial full size graphite sketch done in my sketchbook looked ok, if a little stunted!
I outlined the coo in white pastel, but his proportions didn't look right so I restarted him. Then I started working on the horns first, before the session ended. At home, I worked my way down the drawing, adding different colours here and there, and shading where I felt it needed it. Not entirely happy with the nose, but overall I think I'm happy with the start of my journey in pastels. Every day's a school day, as they say...
Apple
First one of our pastelmat and pastel pencils sessions, and I was really eager to have a go at this medium. Starting simple enough with an apple, I became engrossed but totally relaxed, working the colours in and getting the drawing to look realistic. I thought it was finished, but having watched a tutorial I think it needs more layers so I will save that for another day. Pleased enough with the first attempt.
Beach Scene
Completed at home over a weekend. Again, done in graphite and finished with pen, I struggled quite a bit getting the fencing right, and despite some mistakes I think it will pass. I need to be able to slow myself down when working on shading with pen, and also maybe try some other shading patterns.
Sitting man
I'm not a fan of drawing people so wasn't expecting much from myself for this one. Done in graphite first and then pen on top, I threw myself into the task and found a person starting to develop before me. I completed him at home and was happy enough with the result.
