Rabbit
Thank you for introducing me to this new technique, I haven’t had so much fun since discovering the artist Jon Tremaine and pointillism. I have chosen a different kind of hair for my task. I love animals and birds and this image has both. The scribing technique is ideal for the fur texture, once I started I had to continue becauseI couldn’t wait to see the finished result. Think I maybe hooked on this tool.

Street pen and wash
I liked this picture it’s not as loosely portrayed as the original but I prefer precision.
I am still not confident with paint application so it has been added carefully.
Enjoyed doing it though and it was great to see the class members after the Whitsun half term. It was so nice to have their company and catch up with all the news

Otter
This was my second attempt at scribing and I chose the otter this time.I found it difficult to get the depth of darker shading, even with a 9B pencil. I had applied so many layers of pencil that a charcoal pencil didn’t work on the shiny surface. I have used pen to get the effect although not ideal, lesson learnt for next time.

White on black
Decided to do this on black paper instead using a white pen to sketch the buildings.
Once I started I couldn’t stop, I drew the frame to get the size approximately and did the rest free hand. It was a pleasant change and relaxing.

Ink on coloured paper wash
I usually enjoy pen and ink but found the pen was more scratchy on this surface and didn’t glide across the paper. The background colour doesn’t enhance the image, I think the pen is far more impressive on a white ground.

Dylan
I have really surprised myself with this portrait. I sketched it out first using my tried and tested grid and was happy with that but I was dreading applying the acrylic paint.
This is the stage where it goes horribly wrong. I took time to do this and although there’s room for improvement, I think I have learnt from some of my mistakes.
I really enjoyed it and can’t quite believe that I did it and it’s not going to be binned!!!

Rose
I like flowers but wouldn’t ordinarily choose this subject myself. I used watercolour paint for the image but felt it needed enhancing a little so I added some pen detail.
In my opinion everything can be improved with some happy pen application.

Still life
Well it’s pen and ink so I am happy, relatively easy image not too testing.

Ink portrait
This portrait was more difficult than I first thought. I used a grid to help get proportions more accurate, the clothing was easy to replicate but the face proved to
be more testing. I think the wrinkles are the problem poor man has so many.
However it was fun to do.

Ink boots
Loved doing the boots using pointillism. It takes longer but I find this process of shading most successful and accurate. The boots had character, it took longer than the three hour session but if it gives you pleasure and find it relaxing then it’s worthwhile.

Boulders
Not an appealing subject for me , I didn’t have liquid ink so I used a brush pen to try and replicate this image and added a little water afterwards. I drew it free hand without a grid so not an accurate copy but I think they’re recognisable as rocks.
I enjoyed adding the water to disburse some of the ink and on the whole found the process relaxing.

Doorway
Pen and ink with watercolour pencil. This was a little light relief following the more detailed previous task. It was more basic , wished I had changed the windows on the door ,they’re not particularly attractive. Think I would probably change my colour selection should I attempt it again.

Night sky
I love pen and ink and this was a challenge. The sky area has very repetitive mark making technique and it took some staying power and patience to complete.
I did enjoy it though and especially like the simple but effective process and technique of the sea area.

Onion
Loved this subject, very relaxing and engrossing. It was tricky getting the curved lines with the spacings accurate and was more involved than on first appearance. However very enjoyable

Lanscape
This task was even more relaxing than the onion. It wasn’t so intricate and needn’t be as accurately portrayed. It was relatively quick to do ,very pleasurable.

Tenby
I really struggled getting started on this one. I have a personal dislike of anything seaside related. This image held no attraction or interest for me and as a result my heart wasn’t in it at all. I suppose the only positive is that I did attempt it and finish it. I realise that every member of the class has different tastes and specific individual talents. We all need to be challenged but this subject requires me to change a mind set I have held all my life, sorry.
